Nearly 20 years ago, my mother was shot and killed while working an off-duty police job. A Baton Rouge newspaper, The Advocate, recently printed a story about one of the men convicted of the killing. Kevin Brumfield was recently ruled mentally retarded by U.S. District Judge James Brady, making him ineligible for execution.
